About Our Research

Our lab conducts human-subject research aimed at advancing neurotechnology and biomedical science.  We regularly recruit healthy volunteers for approved research studies at the University of Minnesota.  Participation is always voluntary, and all studies are reviewed and approved by the University’ Institutional Review Board (IRB).

Sensory Engagement and Activation during Noninvasive Stimulation (SEAS) Study

We are recruiting healthy volunteers to help us explore how the brain responds to noninvasive stimulation. If you are interested, please review the study information and eligibility criteria and complete the interest form below.

Why participate?

This study focuses on measuring brain and body signals related to attention, vigilance, and reaction time using noninvasive sensors (e.g., EEG and wearable measures) under different conditions, including noninvasive stimulation.

By volunteering, you will:

  • Contribute to foundational research on human brain function
  • Support work that may inform future clinical and health-related applications
  • Help advance University of Minnesota research with potential real-world impact

Healthy volunteers are essential for early-stage research, and what we learn may help guide future studies aimed at improving health and well-being.

What does participation involve?

  • One visit lasting ~ 2-3 hours.
  • Wearing noninvasive sensors (e.g., EEG) under different conditions (e.g., eyes opened/closed, stimulation/no stimulation) while completing simple tasks.
  • All procedures are explained in advance, and participation is fully voluntary.

Locations: University of Minnesota Twin Cities:  Niels Hasselmo Hall (312 Church St. SE) and 717 Delaware St. SE (your specific location will be confirmed when scheduling).

Compensation

  • $15 gift card upon completion of the study visit
  • Printed certificate of participation available upon request, along with a brief educational overview of clinical exploratory research (short quiz optional if applicable).

Voluntary participation: Participation is completely voluntary. You may stop at any time, and your decision will not affect your relationship with the University of Minnesota.

Eligibility

You may be eligible to participate in our clinical study if your answer is YES to the following questions:

  1. Are you a University of Minnesota student, staff, faculty, or community member?
  2. Are you 18 years old or older?
  3. Can you visit our lab in person for the study?
